Distracted Driving: Find Out What States Have The Most Distracted Drivers On The Roads

Distracted driving continues to be a major issue on our roadways. Have you ever wondered where your state ranks among the worst offenders of texting while driving? Well, EverDrive has released a study showing which states have the most distracted drivers on their roads!

Distracted driving offenders by state

EverDrive Data

We have all read the texting and driving facts, so now it is time to look at some distracted driving data. EverDrive is a driving safety app that can track the users’ habits on the road. You can download the app and have your phone with you when driving. The app will monitor your driving habits. Later on, it will give you diagnostics to review. This can help you improve your driving on the road.

Distracted Driving Data

Since the app monitors the users’ driving habits, it can check on people driving distracted. These results are based on data that EverDrive gathered from 300,000 of the app’s users. That is a huge data set, as a lot of surveys will feature like 1,000 people or less! However, this data may not be the most accurate also. Why? A driver that has downloaded the EverDrive app may not be the best person to test for distracted driving. They are using the app, so they are more likely to already be practicing safe driving habits.

With that being said, it looks like Mississippi has the most drivers likely to be distracted by their phones while behind the wheel. Of the road trips taken, 47% of them included the driver using their cell phone. Right behind Mississippi was Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia, as they had phone use occurring during more than 40% of the users’ trips in 2017.

It looks like the South has some distracted drivers, huh? No shocker here, but states that have banned the use of handheld devices behind the wheel have the lowest percentage in this data. Vermont, Oregon, Hawaii and Washington are at the bottom of the list and all have laws in place banning the use of cell phones while driving.
