Check Out The States With The Strictest And Most Lenient Drunk Driving Laws
Drinking and driving is no joke. In fact, 29% of motor vehicle fatalities in 2015 were to blame because of drunk driving, according to the latest from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Each year, nearly 10,000 lives are lost because of drinking and driving deaths. You can add in the costs for drunk driving cases, which costs Americans more than $44 billion annually.
Education is key, which is where the Arrive Alive Tour comes to the rescue. Besides education, stricter DUI laws could help lower those numbers (and they have)! Between 1982 and 2014, drunk driving fatalities have dropped 57%, according to the NHTSA.
The stricter drunk driving laws have helped factor into those lower numbers, but 10,000 lives lost every year is still too many. States continue to crack down on drinking and driving and WalletHub has compiled a list of the toughest and most lenient when it comes to drunk driving. Here is a breakdown of the Top 10 strictest states:
- Arizona
- Georgia
- Alaska
- Kansas
